There are 26 Islands in its waters, the largest of them called Olkhon. The largest bays are Barguzinsky, Chivyrkuysky, Proval. Four hundred ninety-one river flows into Baikal but follows only one – the Angara. Baikal is one of the largest centres of origin of biological species. There is no other lake in the world, the diversity of which would be so great and unique. Currently, more than 2500 species of plants and animals are known in Baikal: more than 800 species of endemic animals and about 200 species of endemic plants live.
Baikal and its mountain frame combine beautiful land and water landscapes, which are invaluable. Baikal is a subject of special care and protection. In addition, not only in Buryatia, Russia.
